Communication, an important area in the Development Strategy of Genopole®

Concerned with informing a wide audience and opinion leaders, Genopole®'s communication is centered on three primary areas :

  • Contributing to the notoriety of the Evry site through its action and its editorial and event policy
  • Participating in social awareness debates on the ethical issues of research on the human genome
  • Ensuring the flow of information and enhancing exchanges on the campus.

The primary objective of communication is to make the Evry campus known in France and abroad in its role as a trailblazer in the development of genomics and biotechnology.

The Genopole® teams are mobilizing themselves by collaborating with the laboratories and companies that are aware of the issues and by participating in numerous congresses, conferences and scientific or economic debates in order for visitors to discover the site and to meet with decision-makers, elected officials, scientists, etc.

Communicating Social Awareness

Right from its creation, Genopole® committed to a policy of openness at a time when society was preoccupied, and rightly so, with the complexity of the issues in genetic research and its consequences for humans and our environment.

To answers these questions, Gene Cafés were launched in 1999 (in partnership with the AFM, the Regional Council of Ile-de-France, the General Council of Essonne, Université d'Evry-Val d'Essonne, the Municipal Grouping and the city of Evry). These quarterly meetings, similar to "Philosophy Cafés", give the public an opportunity to meet and ask questions to scientists and industrialists on the campus.

Every year, the laboratories and companies of the Genopole® campus in Evry also participate in "Science Day" by opening their doors to the general public (schools, inhabitants of the Evry and Ile-de-France municipal grouping, etc.), answering visitors' questions, organizing exhibits and providing information.

Means of Action

Since 1998, Genopole® has designed, elaborated and set up :

  • Fundamental communication tools such as a visual identity (logo, style book, etc.), a newsletter (Geninfo), institutional documents (annual reports, general information kit, etc.), an Internet site, a documentary and iconographic collection, etc.
  • Diversified and targeted communication actions including Genopole® meetings (Genopole® Clubs, seminars and breakfasts), publication, with the collaboration of Hachette, of a "Focus on Genetics" intended for high school students and their families, communication consulting and logistical support for researchers and entrepreneurs, and participation in various events (conventions, inaugurations, symposia and national and international trade shows).
